Just for fun hear about our turkey this year...
As you know Mark is a vegetarian. I guess it is fair to say that his beliefs stem from his past experiences of witnessing the mistreatment of animals. So with the advancement in Free Range foods (that are monitored) we decided to all partake in a Free Range Turkey this year. The only reason I mention this is because the whole experience was so CUTE! We got a referal from a friend on which farm to use so we called ahead early and reserved our turkey! We were invited to come and visit the farm before we purchased if we were interested. (we didn't, mostly because it would have been an extra trip out there) We made arrangements to pick him up on Christmas Eve. The little home run turkey farm is in a little village about 30 miles away from our house. Since we had a few last minute errands to run on Christmas eve we all decided to drive out there together to pick him up. I just can't get over how cute the whole thing was. The little farm had an newly built little shop beside one of the out buildings where you go in to buy your bird. We went in to pick up "Frank" (we named him) and he was brought out, weighed (5.2kg - yes small but there are only 3 of us with appetites) , and dressed with fresh herbs (already plucked and ready to cook of course) put on the scales and then put in a carry box for us to take home. The butcher and his wife were behind the counter all dressed in their white outfits (with cute hats) full of smiles and well wishings for Christmas. It just seemed so clean, neat and un butcher like. We will get one from them again next year for sure. The turkey even came with a little cookbook with hometried recipes and cooking instructions!

How cute... We are making efforts to switch to organic and free range products. It is very difficult to stop eating all of the yummy chemical foods. Wish there were pics of the turkey.
